GFC Mercado Review: London Address, Saint Lucia Company

Spanish-language GFC Mercado is a platform offering forex, stock index and commodity trading through MetaTrader 5. At the very top of the site sit an address in London's financial district and telephone numbers from three countries; the company's legal registration, however, is in a completely different country.

🏙️ A London Front, a Saint Lucia Registration

The site uses the line "UK Office: 25 Canada Square, London"; this address belongs to a skyscraper in Canary Wharf. Yet according to the legal notice at the bottom of the page, Global Financial Contracts Ltd., which operates the platform, is registered in Saint Lucia as an international business company under number 2024-00376. An address in the United Kingdom does not mean permission from the UK regulator, and the site does not show any such permission.

The numbers announced on the site are: London +44 20 3991 0502, Mexico +52 55 4163 7602 and the USA +1 210 595 3390. The domain gfcmercado.com has been registered since 2007.

🚩 Why Does This Scheme Carry Risk?

The company that holds the account holder's money and the address that inspires trust are in different countries; in a dispute the counterparty is a company in Saint Lucia. GFC Mercado does not appear on the SPK list of authorised intermediary institutions, and SPK announced in its decision No. 8/297 of 24 February 2017 that leveraged transactions with entities established abroad are unauthorised.
