Fake Coinbase Scam: Hash Power Event and Withdrawal Fees

The name of one of the world's best-known crypto exchanges has now been used to persuade people to join a "seven-day hash power event". On an interface made to look like Coinbase, small and then steadily larger amounts were deposited; at the withdrawal stage a security deposit was requested first, and then a fee on the grounds of "data loss".
🚩 The Payment Chain Step by Step
- Small start: The first deposit is kept low and quick profits are shown on the screen.
- Growing rounds: A larger deposit is requested under the name "seven-day hash power event".
- Security deposit: At withdrawal, the account is said not to have passed "advanced verification" and a security deposit is demanded.
- Second fee: After the security deposit is paid, a transaction fee is raised on the pretext of "data loss".
- Deletion and blocking: The other side deletes the chat history unilaterally and blocks the user.
🔍 How It Differs from the Real Coinbase
Coinbase is a genuine US-based crypto exchange and has no relationship with the scheme described in this article. On a real exchange, no outside security deposit is paid in order to withdraw, no time-limited investment package is sold under the name "hash power event", and the support team cannot delete the chat history. The name has been borrowed only to create trust.
Schemes of this kind are assessed as qualified fraud committed using computer systems as a tool, under Article 158/1-f of the Turkish Penal Code.
