Deepfake Celebrity Ad Investment Scam Explained

One of the methods investment fraudsters have used most often in recent times is fake video and imagery of well-known people produced with artificial intelligence. This article covers the method for information purposes.

🎭 How Is the Trap Set?

The face and voice of a well-known businessperson, TV presenter or public official are imitated with deepfake technology. In the fake video, this person appears to recommend a so-called "investment opportunity". The aim is to exploit the trust that a familiar face creates.

🪤 The Redirection Mechanism

The link in the ad leads to an unlicensed platform or to a registration form. A person calling as an "adviser" then promises high returns from a small start and tries to get more and more money transferred.

🔎 How to Tell the Difference

  • A well-known name promising "guaranteed profit" is not credible.
  • Videos may show lip-sync mismatches and unnatural expressions.
  • Platforms reached through an ad, rather than an official source, are suspicious.

Reminder: A genuine public figure does not steer individuals into investments through a social media ad. A familiar face is not, on its own, a sign of trust.
