Right to an Interpreter in Criminal Proceedings in Türkiye

A fair trial requires that a person can understand the proceedings and express themselves. For people who do not speak Turkish, or who have a hearing or speech impairment, the right to an interpreter provides this safeguard. This article covers the subject within its legal framework for general information.

🗣️ What Is the Right to an Interpreter?

A person who cannot express themselves sufficiently or who does not know the language of the proceedings has the right to the free assistance of an interpreter. This right applies from the stage of the statement and questioningTR onwards. Appropriate assistance is also provided for people with a hearing or speech impairment. The aim is for the person to understand the process and to be able to defend themselves.
