Sygnum Global Scam: Misusing the Sygnum Bank Name

Sygnum Global stands out as a platform that collects deposits with the promise of profit under the name of digital asset investment. The name of the scheme was not chosen by chance: it almost exactly matches the brand of a regulated digital asset bank operating in Switzerland and Singapore. There is no connection between that bank and this platform; the bank is itself a victim of this use of its name. The scheme has been entered as "Sygnum Global" on the unauthorised firms warning list of the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

In short: The scheme is on the FCA's unauthorised firms warning list. The entry gives three separate UK mobile phone numbers together with two different domain extensions: the promotional site is sygnumglobal.co, while the support email uses the sygnumglobal.org extension. No address is given. The split between the site and email extensions, and the use of a pool of numbers instead of a single line, show that the parts of the scheme can be shut down and renewed independently of one another. The one point that decides the position in Türkiye does not change: Sygnum Global is not authorised in Türkiye by the Capital Markets Board (SPK).

🚩 The Single Word Added to the Brand

The method used here is not copying the brand but adding a word to the brand. An addition such as "Global" bothers no one because it claims nothing; but in the mind it does the opposite, reading as the international arm, overseas branch or new set-up of the well-known brand.

Yet when regulated banks open a new arm, they do not do it with an adjective attached next to the brand but through a separate licensing process; each country needs a separate application, a separate title and a separate registry record. A word added next to a brand never creates a new authorisation. In short, the word "global" does not describe an expansion of scope, only the impression of an expansion of scope.

The fact that the FCA entry gives the scheme's name as "Sygnum Global" also shows where this impression breaks: the regulator recorded this name not in the register of authorised firms but on the unauthorised firms warning list. The two lists are exact opposites; one says who is permitted, the other says who should be avoided.

🌐 Two Different Extensions: Site .co, Email .org

The most concrete detail in the FCA entry is that the contact details are not gathered under a single domain name. The promotional site is published under the sygnumglobal.co extension, while the support email is used under the sygnumglobal.org extension.

This split is critical. In a corporate structure, the website and the correspondence address run under the same domain name; this is not a choice but the natural result of a corporate identity. When a company registers a domain name, it sets up email service on the same registration. That the site is on one extension and the email on another shows that the two ends were opened at different times and with different registrations.

The practical result is this: when one closes, the other stays up. Even if the promotional site is blocked, the correspondence channel may keep working, and the reverse is also possible. Because the visible face of the scheme and its contact surface are separated, it becomes harder to disable the whole with a single intervention. For the same reason, the investor cannot tell which end is the "real" one.

📱 Three Mobile Numbers: A Pool of Numbers, Not a Single Line

The entry lists three separate UK mobile phone numbers for the scheme together: +44 7346 461516, +44 7520 684541 and +44 7441 428543. All three are mobile lines, not landlines.

In a supervised firm, customer communication runs through a corporate switchboard, through a single known number that matches the firm's registry record and address. That several mobile numbers appear in the same entry points to a pool of numbers used in rotation rather than one contact line. When one number is burnt, the next one takes over; the number replacing the dropped line continues to represent the same scheme but is cut off from earlier correspondence.

The choice of mobile lines is no coincidence either: a landline is tied to an address, a mobile line is not. That no address is given in the entry and that all the lines are mobile lines lead to the same result: where the scheme is physically located does not become a piece of data that can be established. Because contact through messaging apps can also be run through these numbers, the first contact can begin without leaving any corporate record.

📉 The Step-by-Step Trust Scheme

In the reports about the platform, the recurring sequence is as follows:

  1. Contact is made through messaging apps or social media, mostly under the identity of a "successful investor".
  2. A small starting amount is deposited; a balance that rises quickly is shown on the dashboard.
  3. At the first stage a small withdrawal request is deliberately honoured; this step serves as proof that the system works.
  4. When the amount grows, the withdrawal is not refused but made subject to conditions: extra payments such as commission, tax or a verification fee are demanded.

The critical point in this scheme is the third step. The first withdrawal that is honoured is not a sign of good faith but the justification for the later payments; when depositing the larger amount, the person now thinks he or she is relying on something he or she has tested. The pool of numbers supports this flow as well: messages arriving from different numbers at different stages of the process give the impression that there are several departments on the other side.

🔍 The Extra Payment Demand Is Itself an Answer

In a supervised firm, tax and commission are deducted from the amount to be paid out; the client is not asked for new money from outside. A sentence such as "pay this fee first and then we will send your balance" is therefore not a technical procedure but a plain record that the money supposedly being held does not exist. A deduction can be made from a balance that exists; it cannot be made from one that does not.

The one point that decides the position in Türkiye does not change: Sygnum Global is not authorised in Türkiye by the Capital Markets Board (SPK) and has no authority to carry out capital markets activity in Türkiye. That the scheme offers crypto assets does not change this picture; collecting investments with the promise of profit is an activity that requires permission, whatever type of asset is offered.

🛡️ Checks Before Investing

  • The exact, letter-for-letter brand shown on screen is what is searched for in the official lists of authorised firms; if a word has been added, this is a different entity.
  • The title is verified from the SPK list: SPK list of authorised intermediary institutions
  • The domain of the website and the extension of the email address are compared; their being different is not what is expected in a corporate structure.
  • Whether the phone number used is a landline or a mobile line, and whether it matches the address the firm has declared, is looked at.
  • Where the name of a well-known institution is mentioned, the existence of such a scheme is confirmed through that institution's own official channels; for the verification steps, see SPK licence checks and institution verificationTR.

🔗 Other Platforms Using the Same Method

Adding a neutral word next to a well-known brand is not a technique used on its own; the same logic runs through all schemes that borrow the appearance of supervised firms. The site-level form of this pattern is covered under fake brokerage and bank clone sites. For operations in which first contact is made through a pool of numbers and different "departments" come into play at different stages, see fake investment call centre operationsTR, and for the contractual cover for demanding extra payments at the withdrawal stage, forex bonus and promotion withdrawal conditionsTR. Schemes in which contact made under a "successful investor" identity is continued through trade copying are described in copy trading and social trading scamsTR, and the tracing problem that arises when the deposited amount is moved to crypto exchanges in forex money transferred to a crypto exchangeTR.

🧭 How Does the Legal Process Work for Victims?

In cases of this kind, the process runs along criminal and private-law tracks together. On the criminal side, the move of the case from investigation to prosecution and the elements required in the indictment are covered in the investment fraud indictment processTR; the circumstances that lead the act to be assessed as a qualified form are covered under aggravating circumstances in qualified fraudTR. The legal basis and conditions of a claim for the return of the paid amount are covered in the restitution and unjust enrichment claimTR, and the framework for identifying assets in the recipient accounts under asset investigation in investment fraudTR.

Because the payment method, its timing and the data available about the other side differ in every case, the route followed also varies from case to case. For detailed information and legal support, you can contact Savun Law & Consultancy.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Is Sygnum Global an arm of the Swiss-based bank with a similar name?

No. There is no known connection between the two. The bank whose name is evoked is the party harmed by this use. The scheme is on the FCA's unauthorised firms warning list, not in its register of authorised firms.

Why does it matter that the site extension and the email extension differ?

In a corporate structure the site and the correspondence address run under the same domain name. That the promotional site is on .co and the support email on .org shows that the two ends were opened at different times and with separate registrations, and that one may stay up when the other closes.

Why are three separate mobile numbers used?

That several mobile numbers appear in the same entry points to a pool of numbers used in rotation rather than a single corporate contact line. When one number is disabled, the next takes over; being mobile lines also means the lines are not tied to an address.

I withdrew a small amount without problems. Does that not mean the system works?

No. Honouring small withdrawals is a known stage of this scheme and aims to get larger amounts deposited.

I am asked to pay tax or commission to withdraw. Is this normal?

No. At authorised firms these items are deducted from the amount to be paid out; a demand for extra payment from outside points to the balance not being real.

I deposited money with this platform. What should I do?
