Bond Rate Compare Scam: Clone Firm on UK Warning List

Bond Rate Compare operates under a name that suggests it compares interest rates on bonds and fixed-income products, and it has been entered on the warning list of the UK financial regulator as a clone firm. Under this name there is no SPK authorisation in Türkiye. The most critical aspect of the case is that the copied record does not belong to an investment firm but to a private individual whose activity has nothing to do with finance.

🚩 Why Is a Comparison Site So Convincing?
People are wary of a seller, but not of a comparison screen. The party doing the comparing is assumed to have no interest in making one of the listed options win. The person believes they are not being sold a product but are being shown the market.
Here, however, the same party writes the list, the rates on the list and which option will appear "best". Neutrality is not an adjective but the existence of a separate party, and on this screen there is no separate party. The language of comparison is a cover that lets a single offer pass as "the market itself".
The verb in the name does the same job: "compare" makes people feel that they are the ones deciding. A person who thinks they are deciding questions their own decision less. A sales page has to "persuade"; a comparison screen produces the same result with less resistance simply by appearing to offer options.
The first two words of the name set the product category: "bond rate". This choice is not accidental either. Bonds are widely seen as a low-risk and understandable product. A promise of high returns raises questions when attached to a product that looks risky; attached to a product regarded as low-risk, it does not. The front was chosen from the category least likely to be questioned.
📉 The EXISTENCE of a Record and Its SCOPE Are Different Things
The notable detail in the warning entry is that the party whose registration details were copied is not an investment firm. The record in question is an individual registration belonging not to a company but to a private individual, and that person's registered activity has no connection whatsoever with finance or investment intermediation.
The meaning is clear: the fraudsters took a record that contains no investment authority at all and dressed it up as an investment front. A number really does come up on the search screen; but the entry behind that number belongs to an activity unrelated to the service offered on screen.
The rule that follows can be summed up in one sentence: the existence of a record is not enough; what the record covers must be read. Authorisations are always limited — which activity, which product, which client group. The party showing the record does not volunteer these limits; reading them is the task of the person doing the search.
The mistake made in practice is to read the registration number as a seal of validity. A number is not a seal but the address of a file. Unless the activity written inside that file is read, the existence of the number proves nothing. In this case the number is real, while the scope is the exact opposite of the service offered.
The second detail points the same way: the record belongs not to a company but to a natural person. For an operation that presents itself as a corporate comparison platform to rest on one person's individual record is a contradiction sufficient in itself. A comparison platform has to establish corporate relationships with the providers of the products it lists; such a relationship cannot be run on an individual registration.
🔍 The Neutral Comparison Screen Leads to a Single Platform
This scheme works differently from a sales page, and that difference is what makes it more dangerous. The person enters the screen to do research; yet the only result the screen is meant to produce is already fixed.
The comparison front has three stages:
- Impression of breadth: Several options and several rates are shown on screen. The sheer number of options creates the feeling that whoever prepared the list is neutral.
- Narrowing: The person enters an amount, a term or a risk preference. This step reinforces the feeling that the decision belongs to the person; yet whatever is entered, the result set is fixed.
- A single exit: At the end of the comparison one platform is indicated as the "most suitable" option, and the transaction is carried out by moving to that platform.
In the end the person heads to that platform believing they have chosen it. In reality, the party that prepared the list and the party that appears at the end of the list are the same. The comparison screen is not a research tool but a tool for producing approval: it hands the person, ready-made from the start, a conclusion they believe they reached through their own research.
The rates shown on screen do not even need to be linked to any market data. These numbers are page text prepared by the party that will accept the payment; the return shown has no real counterpart.
🌐 The Address Found and the Gap in Contact Details
The activity is run through the address bondratecompare.co.uk, which was online at the time of the search. The warning entry contains no e-mail address or telephone number beyond this.
Using a country extension does not mean authority to provide investment services in that country. An extension creates an impression of geography, not of legal status. An address with a country extension is chosen because it evokes a structure that can be tied to a supervisory regime — it does not have to deliver what it evokes.
The complete absence of contact details is separate information. An entity's identity is established by a postal address, a landline and a register entry; all three leave a trace after closure. The absence of all of them shows that the point of contact is left only to an on-site form and live chat. Correspondence held through these channels does not remain with the other side once the server is shut down. This is why it matters that payment receipts, bank records and page captures are preserved unaltered.
⚖️ Legal Position and SPK Authorisation
In Türkiye, acting as an intermediary in the trading of capital markets instruments, and offering these products to people resident in the country, depends on authorisation by the Capital Markets Board. The name Bond Rate Compare is not among the institutions holding this authorisation.
The defence "we only compare" does not change this picture. An operation that lists products and refers people onward is in effect acting as an intermediary if it collects money at the end of the referral, and a separate authorisation is required for that activity. The language of comparison changes only the appearance of the activity, not its nature.
Collecting money by creating the impression of relying on an authorised record points to a situation where the element of deceit is carried out through the imitation of an institutional identity. When the aggravating circumstances of qualified fraudTR come into play is one of the topics that define the criminal framework of this type of case.
The party whose record and identity were used without permission is in the position of an injured party in this case; moreover, the registered activity is not even an investment service. For this reason that person's name, registration number and contact details are deliberately not included here.
🛡️ Checks Before Investing
- When a comparison screen appears, the first question is aimed not at the product but at who prepared the list. If a single platform comes out at the end of the comparison, what exists is a referral, not a comparison.
- The scope of the record shown is what needs reading: for which activity, and for which title, was it issued? Whether the record belongs to a company or to a private individual is also checked separately; it helps to know in advance which fields are compared in licence searches and institution verificationTR.
- Bond Rate Compare is not authorised by the SPK; the current list of authorised institutions is on the SPK page for intermediary institutions.
🔗 Other Platforms Using the Same Method
Referral to a single platform through a screen that looks neutral is not specific to comparison sites. We have covered case types in which the same mechanism is repeated through different fronts in separate articles.
- Imitation of authorised brokerage and bank identities through clone sites
- Referral run through copy-trading and social-trading frontsTR
- Investment schemes that create an impression of security with a fake letter of guaranteeTR
- Investment fraud run through binary option frontsTR
🧭 The Legal Process
In cases of this kind the process has several stages. What follows is only a description of the process; each case is assessed under its own conditions.
- Compiling documents: Payment records, captures of the comparison screen and referral pages, and the texts approved at account opening are gathered together. Which documents victims retain at the first stage outlines this stage.
- Criminal process: The gathered documents are submitted to the prosecutor's office; the path a case follows from investigation to indictmentTR sets the framework for this stage.
- Tracing the flow of money: The accounts to which the sent amount was transferred are investigated; the scope of asset investigation in investment fraud casesTR comes into play at this stage.
- Civil claim route: For return of the amount paid, restitution and unjust enrichment claimsTR are assessed.
