JPMorgan CEEMEA Scam: Messenger Ad to WhatsApp Share Fraud

A team operating as JPMorgan CEEMEA reaches Turkish investors through social media messaging apps and runs a fraud under the label of share investment. The operation presents itself as the "JPMorgan CEEMEA Financial Research Team", and it has no connection with the international institution whose name it uses.

In short: Contact begins with a Messenger advertisement; after an automated screening of a few questions the person is redirected to WhatsApp. A "professor" and "assistant" duo then steps in, and trades are shown on a front site and app controlled by the operation itself. The operation acting under the JPMorgan CEEMEA name is not authorised in Türkiye by the Capital Markets Board (SPK), and the real JPMorgan has no connection with this scheme; its name is being misused.

🚨 How Do They Present Themselves?

The team uses the name of a unit that really exists inside an international investment bank. The abbreviation "CEEMEA" is a common term in the financial world for the region of Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa; the research departments of large institutions use this label.

The choice is not accidental. When the name of a unit that really exists is used instead of an invented brand, a doubtful person who searches finds the institution's genuine pages, and the name appears to be verified. Yet what is verified is only that the unit exists, not that the other side has any relationship with it.

The research units of real institutions do not approach individual investors through messaging apps, do not give share recommendations and do not have customer accounts opened. These units produce reports for institutional clients.

📲 From Messenger to WhatsApp: The Screening Funnel

What sets this operation apart from similar ones is the way contact is made. The process begins not by being added to a Telegram group, but with an advertisement shown on Messenger.

  • Advertisement: An investment-themed advertisement is shown on a social media platform; the person who clicks lands directly in a Messenger chat.
  • Automated screening: The other side first asks a few short questions, such as investment experience, the budget that can be set aside and areas of interest. This stage is mostly run with automated replies.
  • Redirection: The person who answers the questions is told "your assessment is positive" and is moved to WhatsApp. The real process starts here.

This two-stage structure has two functions. The first is filtering: people with a profile able to pay are separated out. The second is breaking the record trail; when the advertisement is removed and the Messenger account is closed, the trace of the first contact largely disappears and only the WhatsApp conversation remains.

🎭 The So-Called Professor and the So-Called Assistant

Once the WhatsApp stage is reached, the familiar two-role split comes into play:

Role Name used Function
So-called professor Mehmet Sevim Authority figure; shares "analysis" and "strategy" and is not a direct contact. Makes sure the instructions given are not questioned.
So-called assistant Zeynep Yılmaz Day-to-day contact; account opening, payment instructions and the "you are missing the opportunity" pressure belong to this role.

It is unclear whether these names correspond to real identities. The same scheme appears under different names for different brands; the roles are fixed, the names change.

🆕 Update (October 2026): The name "Mehmet Sevim" has also appeared on Mobius SocialTR, a fake social investment site similar to X. Here he is not a "professor" but uses the title "Senior Investment Adviser at the Mobius Social Investment Services Platform" and makes contact through the number 0506 250 87 74. His profile on the platform states openly that he "shares trade recommendations". The same platform also hosts the profile of the so-called professor of the Global Value ChainTR scheme. Even as the brand and title change, the pool of identities used stays the same.

🖥️ Front Site and App

After the redirection, the person has an account opened on a website and mobile app controlled by the operation itself. From this point the way it works is identical to the clone-site and fake brokerage schemes we have examined before:

  • Payments are made not to the institution's own legal entity but to third-party accounts that are shown to the person.
  • The balance on the dashboard is inflated independently of the real market; the profit shown exists only on paper.
  • The trading decision lies not with the investor but with the "expert", which amounts to unauthorised trade management.
  • At the withdrawal stage, payments that were not announced beforehand are demanded under the name of tax, commission, collateral or verification.
  • When the demand continues, the account is closed and the person is blocked on all channels.

📇 Identified Details

  • Name used to present itself: JPMorgan CEEMEA Financial Research Team
  • First contact channel: Messenger advertisement and chat
  • Operating channel: WhatsApp
  • So-called professor: Mehmet Sevim (the same name is also used on the Mobius Social platform as "Senior Investment Adviser")
  • So-called assistant: Zeynep Yılmaz
  • Number identified: +1 512 363 9778

The country code of the number is noteworthy. Use of a United States number points not to a corporate connection but to a virtual line that can be obtained over the internet. Because such lines can be obtained without regard to national borders, they say nothing about the caller's physical location and are preferred to create an impression of brand credibility.

⚠️ Warning Signs

  • The research unit of an international institution reaching an individual investor through a messaging app
  • Redirection from advertisement to chat and from chat to WhatsApp
  • Being told "you have been accepted" after a "preliminary assessment" of a few questions
  • The "professor" and "assistant" roles being used together
  • Calls from a virtual line abroad
  • No corporate title, address or authorisation document being shared
  • Trades being carried out on a separate site and app instead of the well-known institution's own platform
  • Payment being requested into accounts unrelated to the platform
  • The trading decision not lying with the investor
  • New payment items appearing at the withdrawal stage

📉 SPK and Authorisation Status

This operation acting under the JPMorgan CEEMEA name is not authorised by SPK and has no legal entity established in Türkiye. In Türkiye, intermediation in share transactions, portfolio management and investment advice can be carried out only by institutions that hold an authorisation from SPK; an unauthorised operation managing positions on behalf of an investor is unauthorised capital markets activity. Before investing, check whether a platform is authorised by the regulator in your own country (for example the FCA, ASIC or SEC).

When an operation using the name of a well-known institution is encountered, the only verification available is to obtain confirmation through the official channels of the named institution and to check the authorisation record in the list of SPK brokerage firms. We explained in detail how this check is carried out in our content on SPK licence lookup and institution verificationTR.

An earlier case in which the same brand's name was used with a different scheme, the clone firm method, was covered in our review of JPMorgan Asset ManagementTR.

🔗 Other Platforms Using the Same Method

The use of a well-known institution's name, the "professor–assistant" duo and the transfer to the operation's own dashboard: together these three make a scheme that keeps repeating. We have previously covered the same scheme in these operations:

In these operations the brand name is not an identity but a disposable shell. When a name has left enough negative traces it is dropped; the team, the infrastructure and the payment channels continue to work under a new name.

🧭 The Legal Process After a Loss

In cases of this kind, what is decisive is not the size of the institution whose name was used but which account the money went to. If the payment was made to an account in Türkiye, a concrete counterparty arises who can be pursued.

Obtaining a benefit by using information systems and banking tools while hiding behind the identity of a well-known institution may be treated as qualified fraud under the Turkish Penal Code and as unauthorised activity under capital markets legislation.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Is JPMorgan CEEMEA a real unit?

CEEMEA is a common abbreviation in the financial sector for the region of Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and it is used in the research departments of large institutions. What is at issue here, however, is an operation that uses this name without permission; it has no connection with the named institution.

Does a real investment bank approach people through Messenger or WhatsApp?

No. The research units of institutions do not approach individual investors through messaging apps, do not give share recommendations and do not have accounts opened. These units produce reports for institutional clients.

Why are a few questions asked on Messenger first?

This is a screening stage: people with a profile able to pay are separated out. In addition, when the advertisement and the account are removed, the trace of the first contact largely disappears and only the WhatsApp conversation remains.

Are Mehmet Sevim and Zeynep Yılmaz real people?

It is unclear whether these names correspond to real identities. In these operations the representatives work under pseudonyms and the names change from brand to brand; what stays fixed is the "professor" and "assistant" split of roles.

They called me from a US number. Is that a sign of a corporate firm?

No. Numbers from abroad can be obtained over the internet as virtual lines; they give no information about the caller's physical location. They are often preferred to create a corporate impression.

Is the profit shown on the dashboard real?

No. The balance is shown on a screen controlled by the operation itself and has no link to real market movements. The growth of the figure is a display designed to make people pay again.

The payment went to an account unrelated to the institution's name. What does this mean?

A payment directed not to the legal entity of the advertised institution but to a third account points to the use of a front account. It is also the most concrete point of pursuit in the case, because the account holder is a registered party.

Can the institution whose name was used be held responsible?

In this picture, the institution whose name was used is also the party whose identity was used without permission. Responsibility lies with the person who obtained a benefit by imitating the corporate identity and with the account holders.

Can the money paid in be recovered?

In cases of this kind, recovery may be possible. What is decisive is which account the transfer went to, how far back the process goes and the records available. For detailed information and legal support, you can contact Savun Law & Consultancy.

Can callers who say "let us get your money back" be trusted?

No. This is a second wave of fraud run with victim data obtained in the first incident. The identity of the other side is verified through the name of the responsible lawyer, the bar association they belong to, their registration number and the office address.
