Copy Trades Scam: FCA-Warned Ponzi Copy Trading Site

Copy Trades is a Ponzi scheme that collects funds from customers under the label of "copying the trades of expert traders". It was warned about by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in March 2026. The money paid into the platform is not used for real trading; the Ponzi scheme is kept going only by paying part of the money taken from new investors back to early investors. CopyTrades.ai, which is linked to Copy Trades, has received a separate FCA warning.

Licence Status and Official Warnings

Copy Trades holds no financial licence. Copy Trades is not authorised in Türkiye by the Capital Markets Board (SPK). In Türkiye, forex and copy trading services may be offered only by institutions licensed by the SPK. The FCA warning indicates that the "copy trading" system offered by the platform is entirely fake and forms part of a Ponzi scheme.

The Fraud Method: A Ponzi Scheme

Copy Trades uses the classic Ponzi fraud structure. The scheme works as follows:

  • The promise of successful traders: It offers copying under the management of "professional traders with a success rate of 90%+".
  • Fake performance records: The "trader's trades" and "profit" shown on the dashboard are entirely staged, artificial data. There are no real trades.
  • Payments to early investors: The first customers are paid part of the money taken from new investors as "profit", which keeps the scheme going.
  • Encouragement to bring in new participants: Early investors who believe they are earning draw in friends and family, which builds up the fraudster's name.
  • Withdrawal blocking: At some point, when the scheme can no longer find new investors or the fraudster has collected enough money, withdrawals are blocked.

The outcome of a Ponzi scheme: Its collapse, and the loss of most investors' money, is unavoidable.

Detection Methods

Ways of recognising Copy Trades and similar Ponzi schemes include:

  • Domain check: The ".top" extension is not usual for corporate financial platforms. Reputable brokerages use extensions such as ".com", ".uk" or ".tr".
  • SPK list check: Copy Trades does not appear in the list of SPK-licensed institutions.
  • FCA warnings: Both Copy Trades and CopyTrades.ai appear on the FCA warning list.
  • Unrealistic returns: Fixed, high return promises (30-50% a month) are a sign of a Ponzi scheme.
  • Suspicious trader information: Very little information, or a fake profile, about the "trader you copy" is an indicator of a Ponzi scheme.
  • Withdrawal difficulties: Independent reports from several users about "cannot withdraw" problems are a further warning sign.

Protection and Precautions

Common precautions against Ponzi schemes such as Copy Trades include:

  • Using only licensed institutions: Platforms and brokerages that hold an SPK licence, listed at https://spk.gov.tr/faaliyet-izinleri/araci-kurumlar.
  • Doubt about unrealistic returns: Fixed, high returns are mathematically unsustainable.
  • Independent information: The FCA warning list, finance forums and independent reviews about the platform.
  • Trader verification: Independent information about the "professional trader" being copied; if none can be found, that can be a sign.
  • Payment method: Platforms that ask for crypto or bank transfers deserve distrust.

Frequently Asked Questions

I paid money into Copy Trades. What happens next?

Further payments and the handling of all transaction records are matters for a legal assessment. For detailed information and legal support, you can contact Savun Law & Consultancy.

What is a Ponzi scheme?

A Ponzi scheme is a fraud system that pays early investors with part of the money taken from new investors, shown as "profit", while no legitimate business activity exists. The scheme collapses when it can no longer find new investors, and most investors lose their money.

Does Copy Trades carry out real trading?

No. According to the FCA warning, the "trades" shown by Copy Trades are entirely artificial and staged. No real market transactions are made.

Why did CopyTrades.ai receive a separate warning?

Copy Trades and CopyTrades.ai are part of the same fraud network. Fraudsters often set up multiple domain names so that they can use the second site if the primary one is shut down.

Can I find out which traders Copy Trades copies?

The "traders" listed on the platform consist of fake accounts and correspond to no real person or real trade.
