MERRILL Crypto Scam – Misusing the Merrill Name

MERRILL Crypto is a scheme that dresses a crypto app in the name of a long-established American investment brand. According to the account on record, when a user tried to withdraw coins, they were told there was a "data anomaly" on the account and that a collateral deposit was required before the transaction could be opened.
🎭 Why Was the Merrill Name Chosen?
Merrill (formerly Merrill Lynch) is a real investment and wealth management brand within Bank of America. It does not operate a crypto exchange or app called "MERRILL Crypto" and has no relationship with the scheme described in this article. An established name is chosen so that the user trusts the platform without researching it. The same method is also seen in bank and brokerage clone sites.
🚩 The "Data Anomaly" and the Collateral Demand
In apps of this kind the balance grows on the screen, but when it is time to withdraw, a technical problem is invented: a "data anomaly", a "risk check" or an "account verification". The fix is always the same: the user must deposit new money from outside. Once the collateral is paid, a new reason usually appears; the balance on the screen has no real backing.
Under Article 158/1-f of the Turkish Penal Code, such schemes are assessed as qualified fraud committed by using computer systems as a tool.
