Family Residence Permit in Türkiye: Who Qualifies

A family residence permit is provided so that the spouse and children of a person living in Türkiye can stay in the country as a family unit. This article explains the family residence permit for general information.

👨‍👩‍👧 Who Can Benefit?

A family residence permit may be granted to the spouse and the minor or dependent children of a Turkish citizen or of a foreigner who is lawfully present in Türkiye. The permit supports the right of a family to live together. It is important that the family tie and the situation of the supporting person are documented. The subject may also overlap with citizenship procedures.

Note: For a family residence permit, the genuineness of the family tie and the conditions of the supporting person are decisive.

📋 Conditions

In an application, points such as whether the supporting person has sufficient income and suitable accommodation, health insurance and the genuineness of the family tie are assessed. Where a sham marriage or a similar situation is established, the permit is refused or cancelled. The genuineness of the conditions is essential.

🗓️ Duration and What Follows

A family residence permit is granted for a period that does not exceed the permit period of the supporting person, and it can be extended. People who have stayed on this permit for a certain period may move to other permit types once the conditions are met. For children who reach adulthood, different types of residence permit may come into play. Each application is assessed separately.
