Hanbury Financial Planning Clone Instagram Account Scam

A username with a digit in place of a letter: @hanbury_financial_p1lanning. With the number "1" used instead of the letter "l" in "planning", this Instagram account has entered warning lists as an unauthorised clone account that impersonates the identity of a financial planning firm registered in the United Kingdom.

In short: This account and the scheme behind it are not authorised in Türkiye by the Capital Markets Board (SPK). With clone accounts of this kind, the method is to gain trust through a social media profile that carries the name of a real firm and then collect investment money. Legal routes exist for claiming such payments back.

📸 How to Recognise a Clone Account

The UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) issued a clone warning for this account in July 2026, and the Norwegian financial supervisory authority did the same in the same year. The warning states that the account imitates a firm registered with the FCA and is unauthorised.

  • The username uses a spelling very close to the real firm, with a single character changed.
  • With accounts of this kind, the conversation is moved to WhatsApp or Telegram within a short time.
  • The real firm's registration number and address may be presented mixed in with fake contact details.

🏛️ The Link with the Real Hanbury Financial Planning

The name being used belongs to Hanbury Financial Planning Ltd, a Cornwall-based British advisory firm with an FCA registration; it has no connection with the Instagram account, and its name is being misused. Even so, a foreign registration of this firm is not valid for providing investment services in Türkiye. The Capital Markets Board's decision No. 5/173 of 3 February 2017 expressly covers unauthorised investment guidance through social media.
