🚩 How Do Schemes of This Kind Work?

In these schemes a caller from a foreign number poses as a "portfolio manager" and asks for a small initial investment. After quick profits are shown on the dashboard, pressure is applied for a larger amount. When a withdrawal is requested, new payments are demanded under headings such as tax, commission or collateral; as the FCA also notes, transactions with unauthorised firms carry no compensation protection.
