Trading 212 Crypto and Forex Scam Warning for Türkiye

Case Overview and Topics Reviewed

As investing has gone digital, globally popular operations such as the Trading 212 crypto and forex platform have caught the attention of Turkish investors. As of 2025, however, the legal status of such platforms in Türkiye is a matter of serious debate. Users who want to carry out Trading 212 crypto and forex transactions need to analyse carefully the gap between the platform's global reputation and local legislation. Transactions made through institutions without a licence in Türkiye leave the investor unprotected both financially and legally.

🆕 Update (November 2026): In investment referrals carried out under the Trading 212 name, payments were found to be received not by the platform but into the account of a company with a Cyprus-registered name. Details of the name appearing as the recipient on payment receipts and of the method: B Kaz Trading Ltd, a Cyprus front company scam.

1. No Physical Office in Türkiye and No Counterparty

The most basic measure of trust in an investment platform is being able to find a physical counterparty in a possible dispute. Trading 212 has no physical office, branch or liaison office in Türkiye. The company runs its operations from the United Kingdom (London), Bulgaria and Cyprus. This means a Turkish investor has no official address to knock on. Disputes with an institution that cannot be served with notices obstruct the investor's pursuit of rights before it even begins.

2. No SPK Licence and No Legal Authority

To provide investment services to persons resident in Türkiye, a licence from the Capital Markets Board (SPK) is mandatory. Trading 212 is not authorised in Türkiye by the Capital Markets Board (SPK). This clearly shows that the institution has no authority to provide investment services or collect money in Türkiye. Forex and crypto transactions made through unlicensed institutions remain outside state protection.

3. Why Global Licences Do Not Apply in Türkiye

The fact that the platform is supervised by strong authorities such as the FCA in the United Kingdom or CySEC in Cyprus shows that it is legal on a global scale. However, these licences carry no validity above our local legal system (SPK legislation). This creates two critical risks:

  • No legal counterparty: When a problem arises, Turkish courts or the SPK cannot help. To pursue a claim, one would have to turn to the legal system of the United Kingdom or Cyprus, in a foreign language and at the costs of those countries.
  • Conflict of rules: The leverage ratios and trading conditions offered by global institutions may run against the restrictions meant to protect investors in Türkiye.

4. Access Ban and the Risk of Losing Access to Funds

The SPK has the authority to block foreign-based sites that trade without a licence in Türkiye. In the past, access bans have been imposed on the websites of many global firms. A similar access ban risk always exists for Trading 212. In that case, reaching the balance on the platform may become technically and legally impossible.

The legislation on capital markets offences and unauthorised activity can be reviewed in detail through the Legislation Information System (Mevzuat Bilgi Sistemi).

5. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is Trading 212 a legal company?

Globally it is legal with its United Kingdom and Cyprus licences; but because it has no licence in Türkiye, under local law it has the status of an institution carrying out “unauthorised activity”.

If I cannot withdraw my money, can I go to the Turkish police?

A complaint can be filed, but because the institution has no physical presence in Türkiye, the enforcement powers of the Turkish authorities are limited.

What happens if access to the platform is blocked?

You cannot log in and cannot manage your orders. This situation can lead to major financial losses and to funds becoming unreachable.
